Sach Pass located at a height of about 4414 meters (14,478 feet) from the sea level. Sach Pass is most frequently used by the local people, officials serving in Pangi and also by the shepherds. There is a motorable road across Sach Pass, and is in good shape. Every step is a ritual in this valley, travelers continue their ascent in silence listening to their heartbeats as the surroundings are so majestic and overwhelming that one feels guilty of breaking the sublime silence. The presiding deity of this valley, Bhagwati, disapproves of any noise within her domain. At the top of the Pass, vision extends to the rivers of the plain to the south. Limitless charm beholds the eye on the top.

 

Travel Itinerary

 

Dalhousie to Tissa (1570m) – Motor road to the headquarters of Churah sub-division takes us to Tissa (Bhanjraru).The landscape id rugged yet beautiful Bhanjraru is the official name of the sub-divisional headquarters. Tissa has many lakes, the most prominent being Ghadasru, Mahadev Dal, Mahakali Dal, Maral Dal amd Mehalwar Dal. All these are approachable by foot. Bhandal and Kihar are breathtakingly beautiful and appear to be trapped in time wrap.

 

Tissa to Bairagarh (2800m) - Bairagarh is located at a distance of twenty-seven kilometres from Tissa and is the last village of Churah area. Both Trella (twentv km from Tissa) and Bairagarh are connected with a motor road. The village is a quite retreat overlooking a panorama of the Himalayan peaks. Earlier Trella was the main business center for Pangi. Being the last bus terminus all supplies were taken on headload or on the backs of sheep and goats. Mules crossed the pass for first time in early eighties.

 

Trella to Satrundi (3400m) - This seventeen kilometers long trail is largely well-defined and offers gradual climb up to Hazappad glacier, after the glacier the path ascends at steep gradient up to Satrundi. Satrundi is the base camp below the Sach pass that connects Pangi valley to Chamba The road from Bairagarh to Satrundi passes thorough one of the thickest forest in the area dominated by deodar, the forest is known as Kalaban (black forest).The mountain slopes are full of wild flowers of every hue. We will camp in this serene environment and prepare themselves for the next day.

 

Satrundi to Sach Pass (4414m) – Four kilometers ascent to Sach pass is the most breath taking one. Beyond Satrundi, the region remains under snow almost throughout the year though the path is clear of snow in post-monsoon months. There is small temple at the top of the pass. Travellers offer a piece of red cloth and tie it to the trishuls (trident) affixed at the temple. Usually they also tie a piece of cloth on their wrist or stick it in their garments for the rest of the journey. Teashops function at the top for about three months. They serve tea, boiled spicy black grams, noodles, biscuits and light snacks.
